East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Road Safety Team encourage all cyclists to wear a cycle helmet, whether you are cycling on the road or off the road. Evidence suggests that a correctly fitted helmet will reduce your risk of sustaining a head injury in certain circumstances and according to The Highway Code you should always wear a cycle helmet that conforms to current regulations, is securely fastened and correctly fitted.

James Cracknell, OBE is a British athlete, rowing champion and double Olympic gold medallist who was also involved in a collision whilst attempting a cycling challenge in America. Since the collision, James has been an advocate for the use of cycle helmets. Watch his personal appeal below.
