FAQs

What age can my child start Bikeability?

Bikeability Level 1 & 2 is offered in schools across the East Riding for years 5 & 6. However, some children are ready to complete their Level 1 from Year 3 onwards. If you would like your child to do their Level 1 earlier we may be able to offer one to one training outside of school times, just get in touch with us. Bikeability Level 3 is offered to anyone over the age of 11 years old.

If your young person is about to move up to Secondary school and they are thinking of cycling to school we can offer Level 3 training which will help them plan the safest route to school, train them along the journey to school and give them some tips to keep themselves safe along the way.

What does my child need to take part in Bikeability?

Your child will need a bike which is in a roadworthy condition (two working brakes) to take part in Bikeability. The Highway Code’s ‘Rules for Cyclists’ gives some pointers as to what condition is expected for on-road cycling.

The instructor leading the Bikeability session will have the final say on whether your child’s bike is safe for them to complete the training on.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council require all children to wear a cycle helmet.
